Solar Powered Pumps

The best use to date for solar powered pumps has been in agriculture where the pumps can be used on remote farms and outback stations to supply water to livestock. The remoteness is the key here as powering the pump by any means other than solar energy is costly and inefficient . A typical solar powered pump kit consists of an array of Photo Voltaic (PV) cells that powers an electric motor, which drives a pump. The water is often pumped from a stream or beneath the ground into a storage tank that provides a gravity feed. No energy storage is needed for these systems (save from maybe a rechargeable back-up battery source).
