New York Attractions: Coney Island

If you are a fan of beach resorts, Coney Island is a must visit on your list of New York attractions. It is technically a peninsula and not a full fledged island. It is a place that is warm and sunny. The history of Coney Island goes far back in the 1800s when it was frequented by the who's who of New York. It was in the 1920s that Coney Island started to emerge in its present form. It witnessed a downward slope in its fate at the time of Great Depression but the revival was quick and the amusement park that is located here became its key to enter the hall of fame of New York attractions.

What a Safari Without an Elephant?

A huge elephant decided we were not going to tea. He (she?) blocked the only path. Amazing how much bigger an elephant is when it's not in a zoo. We weren't prepared to challenge this particular pachyderm so we retreated to our tent."Where were you?" our guide asked when we finally arrived at tea."There was this elephant . . ." we began."Oh, that one," he said. "Don't worry. We'll come get you for dinner."By this time I felt more than ready for the "deep and comforting sleep" promised in the brochure.
